Link Insertion (Niche Edits)
Link insertion is the practice of adding a backlink to an already-published, indexed article on a third-party site — typically negotiated with the site owner, sometimes paid.
In context
Link insertion is faster than guest posting (no content creation required) and inherits the existing page's age and authority signals. The risk is the line between legitimate link insertion (a relevant editorial mention added because it improves the existing article) and paid link schemes (which violate Google guidelines and risk manual action). Stay on the right side: only pursue insertions that genuinely improve the host article, disclose any compensation as nofollow + sponsored, and never use scaled outreach for paid placements.
A Canadian B2B SaaS's customer success leader contributed a substantive paragraph and link to an existing 'best customer success tools' article on a partner site — a legitimate editorial insertion that provided real reader value.
