AI Overview Checker
Predict whether a search query is likely to trigger a Google AI Overview in 2026 — and get specific recommendations for how to optimise the target page.
How this tool works (and what it can't tell you)
An honest explanation rather than a black-box prediction.
What it does
Applies a heuristic scoring model based on Google's documented AIO behaviour patterns through April 2026: question-format queries, comparison queries, definitional queries, and how-to queries score highest; YMYL, local-intent, and transactional queries score lower.
What it can't tell you
Whether AIO is actually present for a specific query right now. Google's AIO presence varies by region, account, time of day, and ongoing rollouts. A real SERP check in incognito is the only way to confirm — use the \"Open in Google\" link in your result above.
How to manually verify AIO for any query
- 1
Open Google in an incognito or private browsing window. Sign out of any Google account first; signed-in personalisation distorts AIO presence.
- 2
Set your region to match the audience you're targeting. Use Google's region selector at the bottom of the SERP, or use a search like "site:google.ca {your query}" to force the .ca SERP.
- 3
Enter the query exactly as you predict your audience would type it. Spelling, capitalisation, and word order all change the SERP.
- 4
Look for the AI Overview module — typically appearing above the organic results, with a "Show more" button and citation cards on the right.
- 5
Note which sources are cited in the AIO. These are your direct competitors for AIO citation share. Click through to see what content structure earned the citation.
- 6
Repeat the test 24 hours later and from a different network connection. AIO presence sometimes varies day-to-day during rollouts.
