Search Intent Mapping
Search intent mapping is the practice of classifying every target keyword by the user's underlying goal — informational, navigational, transactional, commercial — and matching it to the right page type.
In context
Mismatched intent is the silent killer of SEO content. A blog post targeting a transactional keyword like 'best SEO agency Toronto' will struggle against service pages with reviews, pricing, and contact CTAs. Map every priority keyword to the page type Google's top-10 already serves: informational queries get long-form blog content, commercial-investigation queries get comparison pages, transactional queries get optimised service / product pages. Intent classification is the first filter on any keyword opportunity list.
A Toronto agency's keyword research flagged 'Toronto SEO services' as transactional, 'how does SEO work' as informational, and 'best Toronto SEO agency' as commercial-investigation — three distinct page types, not one blog post.
