GBP Verification
GBP verification is the process by which Google confirms that the business owner controls the listed location — required before edits are public and the profile can rank in Maps.
In context
Verification methods (vary by category and country): postcard mailed to the business address (most common, takes 5–14 days), phone call, email, video verification (live walkthrough of premises with proof of business signage), or instant verification (rare, only for established Google Workspace customers with verified domains). Service-area businesses with no public address can verify but must hide the address from public view. Verification is one-time per location, but Google occasionally requires re-verification after major changes.
A new Calgary contractor verified by recording a 90-second video walking from the company van (with branded signage) to the office desk where they edit invoices — accepted within 48 hours.
