404 Error

Quick Definition

A 404 error means the requested page doesn't exist on the server. It's the appropriate response for genuinely missing content.

In context

404s aren't bad for SEO if they're accurate — Google understands pages get removed. They become a problem when valuable URLs accidentally return 404 or when 404s are returned for URLs that should redirect. Monitor 404s in Search Console.
