FCP measures when the first piece of DOM content appears on screen. Good FCP is under 1.8 seconds.

In context

FCP is a useful diagnostic but isn't a Core Web Vital. It's primarily affected by render-blocking resources (CSS and JavaScript) and slow server response. Optimizing FCP usually improves LCP as a side effect.
