307 Temporary Redirect

Quick Definition

A 307 status code is a temporary HTTP redirect that, unlike 302, is guaranteed to preserve the original request method (POST stays POST, not converted to GET).

In context

307 is the modern, method-preserving alternative to 302 and is mostly used for API endpoints and form-submission paths. For SEO, 307 behaves like 302: it signals the move is temporary, so search engines keep the original URL indexed. Use 307 for genuinely temporary moves and POST endpoints; use 301 for permanent moves where you want ranking signals to consolidate at the destination.

Example

An ecommerce checkout API returns 307 when temporarily routing payments to a backup processor — preserving the POST body so the transaction completes correctly.
