Scroll Tracking
Scroll tracking measures how far down a page users scroll — typically reported in 25/50/75/100% depth buckets — as a proxy for engagement and content quality.
In context
Scroll tracking is enabled by default in GA4 (Enhanced Measurement → Scrolls fires at 90% depth). For meaningful insight, configure 25/50/75/100% via GTM custom events. Use the data to identify content that loses readers early (low 50% scroll rate signals an intro problem), articles that hold attention (high 100% scroll rate justifies more investment), and the right placement for in-content CTAs (after 50% scroll, before 75%).
A Toronto agency's blog posts averaged 35% reaching 75% scroll depth; redesigning intros to lead with the article's most actionable insight raised that to 58% within a quarter.
