AI Search Traffic
AI search traffic is the subset of organic visits originating from AI-engine answer surfaces — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, AI Overviews — typically attributed via referrer or UTM tracking.
In context
AI search traffic is identifiable in GA4 by referrer (chat.openai.com, perplexity.ai, gemini.google.com, copilot.microsoft.com) and increasingly by structured citation links the engines emit. The traffic profile differs from classical organic: lower volume per query, higher intent (the user already saw a synthesised answer and clicked to verify or go deeper), and higher conversion rates per visit in our experience. Track AI search traffic as a separate channel; do not bundle it with classical organic.
A Canadian B2B SaaS sees ChatGPT-referred sessions convert to demo at 3× the rate of classical Google organic — supporting a separate channel split in GA4 reporting.
