The HTTP method used is not supported for this resource.
What it means
HTTP 405 indicates that the request method (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE, etc.) is not allowed for the target resource. The response must include an Allow header listing the supported methods.
When it's used
When a client tries to POST to a read-only endpoint or DELETE on a resource that does not support deletion.
Common causes
- POST sent to a GET-only endpoint
- DELETE on an immutable resource
- Wrong method in API documentation reference
- Misconfigured route handler
How to fix it
- Check the Allow header to see which methods are supported
- Review API documentation for the correct method
- Verify your route handlers explicitly support the methods you need
Example response
