GA4 vs Universal Analytics: what changed and what to do

Updated April 19, 2026

Universal Analytics was retired by Google in July 2023. GA4 is now the only Google Analytics platform and uses an entirely different event-based data model. If you're still relying on Universal Analytics data or haven't migrated, you're operating blind on current performance.

The Verdict

Universal Analytics is gone — you must use GA4. The migration is non-trivial because the data models are fundamentally different, but it's mandatory for any business that wants to measure marketing performance.
