Practice Owner, single-location Toronto dental clinic (~6 operatories)

An East-end Toronto dental practice was paying for Google Ads to fill the chair while organic and map-pack traffic produced almost no new-patient bookings. We ran an 8-month local SEO program covering GBP rebuild, review velocity, and three neighbourhood landing pages.

The challenge

The practice was spending an estimated C$3,500–C$5,000/month on Google Ads to keep new-patient bookings flowing. Organic search produced fewer than 5 new-patient calls per month at engagement start. The Google Business Profile had 22 reviews with no responses, no service categories beyond "Dentist", outdated photos, and inconsistent NAP across the top 30 dental directories. The website had a single thin "Services" page covering 14 procedures and no neighbourhood targeting despite serving three distinct east-end communities.

Approach

  1. 1
Rebuilt the GBP in weeks 1–3: added 8 secondary categories (cosmetic, family, emergency, Invisalign provider, etc.), uploaded 40+ professional photos, set up weekly GBP posts, and established a 48-hour review-response standard.
  2. 2
Ran a NAP audit across 60 dental + general directories; corrected 18 inconsistencies in weeks 2–4 and submitted suppression requests for 4 duplicate listings.
  3. 3
Built three neighbourhood-specific landing pages (East York, Leslieville, Riverdale) with ~1,200 words each, distinct intro copy, neighbourhood-specific service emphasis, and LocalBusiness + Service schema with explicit areaServed.
  4. 4
Launched a structured review-request workflow: a one-tap SMS sent to patients 24 hours after their visit with a direct GBP review link. Targeted 6–10 new reviews per month.
  5. 5
Set up monthly map-pack ranking tracking from a 3km, 5km, and 10km grid for 18 commercial dental queries, reviewed monthly with the practice owner.

Outcomes

approx. 5/mo → 35–45/mo
Estimated organic + map-pack new-patient bookings (M8 vs M0)
client-reported, tracked via clinic intake form 'how did you hear about us'
approx. 8% → 71%
Map-pack appearances within 5km grid (priority queries)
monthly Local Falcon scan
22 → 118
Total GBP reviews
as of month 8, 100% with practice response
approx. C$3,500/mo → C$800/mo
Estimated paid-ads spend reduction
client-reported; paid kept on for branded defense only

Reflection

Single-location dental practices are the clearest ROI case in local SEO when the practice is willing to actually execute review-velocity work. The technical and content work matters, but it's the review-request workflow that compounds — once a clinic gets to 100+ reviews with active responses, the map-pack moat becomes very difficult for competitors to dislodge. Most Toronto dental practices we audit have under 30 reviews and zero responses; closing that gap alone produces measurable ranking lift within 90 days.
