Personal injury law · Mississauga, ON · serves the GTA · 12 months (ongoing into year two)

Managing Partner, GTA personal injury law firm (3 lawyers, 1 office)

A boutique personal injury firm was being outranked by both national PI brands and lawyer-marketing-agency-built sites for every commercial GTA query. We ran a 12-month vertical SEO program covering practice-area pages, content depth, GBP, and Lawyer + LegalService schema.

The challenge

Personal injury is one of the most aggressively SEO-contested verticals in the GTA — large national firms and lawyer-marketing agencies (the 'big PI websites' template providers) dominate the SERP. The client firm had a generic 7-page site with one thin 'Practice Areas' page covering 11 case types, no neighbourhood targeting despite serving 6 GTA municipalities, and a GBP with 14 reviews. Organic-sourced consultations were averaging 1–2 per month against a paid-ads spend of an estimated C$8,000+/month.

Approach

  1. 1
Built 9 distinct practice-area landing pages (motor vehicle, slip and fall, dog bite, brain injury, spinal cord, wrongful death, long-term disability, product liability, occupier's liability) with 2,200–3,000 words each, FAQPage schema, and Lawyer + LegalService schema with explicit areaServed across the GTA.
  2. 2
Built 6 GTA-municipality landing pages (Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Burlington, Vaughan, Etobicoke) with distinct intro copy, court-house references, and local context — not templated content.
  3. 3
Published 24 long-form FAQ-style articles over 12 months covering high-intent questions ("how long does a motor vehicle injury claim take in Ontario", "what are accident benefits under SABS") with substantive answers and Article + FAQPage schema.
  4. 4
Rebuilt the GBP with full attorney profiles, 40+ photos, and a structured review-request workflow targeting 4–6 reviews per month with full attorney response.
  5. 5
Set up monthly tracking on 60 commercial PI queries across the 6 municipalities + general GTA, plus AI engine citation tracking on 20 informational queries from month 3 onward.

Reflection

Personal injury is winnable for boutique GTA firms — but only with practice-area depth (not a single thin services page) and substantive Ontario-specific content (SABS, threshold motion, deductibles, statutory limitation periods). The lawyer-marketing template sites dominate because most boutique firms don't invest in original content. A 12-month sustained content program flips that dynamic. We've now run variations of this engagement for three GTA PI firms with consistent directional outcomes.
