The four layers of technical SEO
Crawlability: can Googlebot reach every important page (no broken links, accidental noindex tags, blocked robots.txt rules, or orphan pages)?
Indexability: once crawled, does the page have proper canonical tags, no duplicate content issues, and the right meta robots directives?
Renderability: can Google fully render JavaScript content within a reasonable budget, especially on SPAs and React/Vue sites?
Performance: do Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS) pass for at least 75% of real users on mobile?
When technical SEO becomes the bottleneck
If you've been investing in content and links for 6+ months and rankings aren't moving, technical issues are usually the culprit. Common Toronto-site problems: client-side rendered content Google never sees, slow LCP from unoptimized hero images, accidental noindex tags pushed during a redesign, and orphaned location pages with no internal links.
A proper technical audit takes 15–30 hours of senior strategist time and often produces a backlog of 30–80 prioritized fixes.
